Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about grooming your dog at Waggy Tails in Ridgefield Park, NJ

Yes. For the safety of all pets in our salon, we require proof of current rabies and distemper vaccinations before your first appointment. Please bring a copy of your records or have your vet send them over — we're happy to keep them on file for future visits.

For most dogs, every 4 to 6 weeks is ideal for maintaining a healthy coat and keeping their style looking fresh. This can vary depending on your dog's breed, coat type, and lifestyle. Our groomers are happy to recommend a schedule that works best for your pup at drop-off.

Not at all — in fact, regular bathing promotes a healthier coat and skin. We use premium shampoos and conditioners, including oatmeal, hypoallergenic, and moisturizing formulas suited to your dog's specific needs. If your vet has recommended a specific shampoo, just bring it along and we'll use it.

Absolutely. While we stock a range of high-quality products, we're happy to use a shampoo your vet has prescribed or recommended. Just let us know at drop-off so we can plan accordingly.

If your dog has significant matting, please give us a heads up when booking so we can set aside the right amount of time. In severe cases, the most humane option is often a close shave to remove the mats and allow a fresh, healthy coat to grow in. We'll always discuss the best approach with you before we begin — we never make changes without your input.

Yes. We ask that all dogs be treated with flea and tick prevention before their appointment. If we discover fleas at check-in, we'll need to reschedule to protect the health of all the pets in our care. If you have questions about treatment options, your vet is the best resource.

We welcome puppies as young as 4 months (as long as vaccinations are current) and senior dogs up to 12 years old. Our groomers are experienced with dogs of all ages and take extra care with older pets who may need a gentler touch.

If you're running behind, please call or text us as soon as possible. Appointments may need to be rescheduled if you're more than 15 minutes late, as it can affect the dogs scheduled after yours.

We kindly ask for at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations and no-shows affect our small team and other clients waiting for appointments, so repeated no-shows may be subject to a fee.

The safety of your pet and our staff always comes first. We reserve the right to decline or stop a groom if a dog shows signs of aggression that put our team at risk, or if a pet arrives with fleas or ticks. We'll always communicate openly with you and work together to find the best path forward for your dog.

Most grooms take between 2 and 3 hours, depending on your dog's size, coat condition, and the services requested. We'll give you an estimated time at drop-off and call you as soon as your pup is ready to be picked up.
